What is, acceptance and how does it apply to your life?

Acceptance is defined by Merriam Webster Dictionary (2018), as the action of consenting to receive or undertake something offered; the action or process of being received as adequate or suitable, typically to be admitted into a group (Agnes, 2018).

Acceptance is the opposite of resistance. Acceptance means you take responsibility for something you do not avoid it. You accept things for what they are, and you don’t force them.

Do you understand what acceptance is and how it applies to your life yet?

Acceptance in psychology is a person’s assent to the reality of a situation, recognizing a process or condition rather it is a negative situation or uncomfortable situation, without trying to change it or resist it.

By accepting our emotions, we are accepting the truth of our situations, our experiences. If you can accept your own emotions then you should be able to accept people for who they are.

People deal with emotions just like you do. If you keep this in mind, you will be able to accept situations a little better. Meaning you will realize that you can not change people. You can not determine how others will act or react, but you can be in control of your own emotions and you can accept things as they come humbly and gracefully.

I encourage you to have acceptance in your life. Be accepting of situations as they come, do not try to rush the outcome. I encourage you to be in control of your emotions and react to everyday situations as gracefully as you can.

It is important to remember you were born for a purpose! It is up to you to find that purpose and grow from its greatness. Acceptance is a key component in growth. When you accept you stop resisting what is meant to be.

“Our uniqueness, our individuality, and our life experience mold us into fascinating beings. I hope we can embrace that. I pray we may all challenge ourselves to delve into the deepest resources of our hearts to cultivate an atmosphere of understanding, acceptance, tolerance, and compassion. We are all in this life together.”

Linda Thompson

“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend”

Melody Beattie

“The first step toward change is awareness. The second step is acceptance”

Nathaniel Branden
