Survivor

What is a survivor and how does it apply to your life?

The Websters New World Dictionary (2018), defines a survivor as a person who survives, especially a person remaining alive after an event in which others have died; the remainder of a group of people or things; a person who copes well with difficulties in their life (Agnes 2018).

Being a survivor means to succeed in keeping alive during a dramatic event, or to beat the odds that so many of us face. We live in a world that chaos is amongst us so much, that it becomes normal to us. For whatever reason, many of us did not wake up today! You are alive for a reason.

You want to know how being a survivor applies to your life?

It applies because you have survived so far! You had a will to persevere no matter what came your way!

Ask yourself what have you survived in life? Did you have a chaotic childhood? Have you survived an abusive relationship? Have you recovered from an addiction? Have you survived a sickness? What about a near-death experience? Have you survived anything negative that came your way in life? Think about it, what have you overcome in life that others may still be struggling with? Whatever it is, you are, in fact, a survivor!

You can look at your life experiences as a victim or you can look at your life experiences as a survivor. It is your choice! Whatever happened yesterday you survived it.  No matter how you look at it, if you woke up today you survived yesterday!

You have to take responsibility for you! Don’t fall victim to allowing life’s ups and down’s to hinder you from your purpose! Remember you were born to be great! Keep going, you got this thing called life! Tap into your greatness and show the world what you got!

Quote:

“I am a survivor and not a victim. Life isn’t perfect. When you get a knock, you have to get up, dust yourself down and get on with it”

Patsy Kensit

“Being a survivor doesn’t mean being strong – it’s telling people when you need a meal or a ride, company, whatever. It’s paying attention to heart wisdom, feelings, not living a role, but having a unique, authentic life, having something to contribute, finding time to love and laugh. All these things are qualities of survivors”

Bernie Siegel
